Description
Though the top birding destinations in Peru are on the other side of the Andes, more than fifty species can be easily spotted within the boundaries of Lima. Come birding with me to the parks, wetlands and beaches of the southern fringe of the city, and get to know a different side of Lima, away from the crowds and the hectic traffic.
The ideal tour would cover:
- The private conservation area "La Isla", bordering the reserve. This park owned by my family is the only place in the Villa wetlands where it's possible to get deep into the reeds in row boats / kayaks.
- The parks of El Olivar and 7 de Junio in the San Isidro and Miraflores districts respectively. These are good places to start, and are home to songbirds and parakeets.
- The coastal lagoon and flat lands of Mar Villa in the Pantanos de Villa national reserve.
- The beach next to the coastal lagoon, a large gathering point for seagulls and shorebirds.

I am a law student and an office-confined intern Monday through Friday, and an avid birdwatcher during the weekends. With my family, I own a plot of flooded land adjacent to the Pantanos de Villa national reserve that we have dedicated to ecotourism. Our aim is to turn it into a self-sustaining private conservation area.
Professional description
I started guiding birders on weekend mornings for free, just for the fun of it. I have now taken courses and I'm becoming more involved with the local wildlife refuge that I visit, as well my family's own project. It's something I like doing so much I want to do it more often.
