Description
A leisurely walk through Old Surabaya, taking you first to the old port to see the teak wood schooners. We visit the historic Red Bridge area and examine some of the fine Dutch architecture. We visit a Chinese temple from the 19th century in Chinatown, visit the oldest existing market, the Arab Quarter and souk and visit an old clove cigarette factory.
Graeme Steel has lived in Indonesia for 25 years. He has explored the archipelago’s length and breadth, and has a keen interest in Indonesian history, culture and sights, which he enjoys sharing with others. He has written numerous articles on Indonesia for magazines, including Island Life, Jakarta Java Kini, and other media. He wrote the Java chapters of the most recent edition of the Rough Guide to Indonesia, and his photographs have been published in a number of magazines.
